When does the water warm-up

Monday’s training went well. I decided to take the plunge and get into the pool to do a few laps. Seeing how my first triathlon is in 2 weeks and I haven’t done ANY swimming...I figured that this would be a good time to start. Well first I had to get a wetsuit, water is still rather nippy. Ok...did that. I bought a second hand Quintana Roo off of eBay for $49, I was rather happy with the condition. Well I got it in and in Monday morning...chest all pumped up.....I donned on my suit and jumped into the pool at 5:30 am and the air temperature about 50°F. Shortly after jumping in the rather brisk water...I felt two lumps in my throat, and after a few moments, I realized that they were my testicles! BRRRR Well I know I was being a wossy and I did warm up after a minute. So I began my first of a several laps...not too bad. I thought that I would be a bit rusty, but my technique felt alright considering the hiatus that I have been on from swimming. Well I survived the swim, but I did decide to schedule them in the afternoon....so that is the plan. I’ll swim in the afternoon and alternate running and cycling in the mornings until the race. I’d like to have several thousand kilometers between now and the race day. I was a bit too winded. Last night I did run to the park and back...the same route that Carmen and I rode on Sunday and I think that I ran faster than we cycled it. Even after slowing down not to push myself...I still managed a 7 min mile pace. I think that I was on course for a sud-six minute, but I don’t need to do that to myself so early in the season. I did ride this morning too....30 miles with a 27.5 mph pace, and I’ll swim tonight when I get home. I think that I want to just swim for time and not distance....I think that it’s better to have the endurance rather that just say I can swim X kilometers. Maybe I’ll try the tethering technique. My pool is so short that I can’t really get into a good rhythm. But again...it’s so early in the season.
