The weekend!

Saturday was a washout! Two words…RAIN and WIND. Ok…so that is three, but and doesn’t count…right? So anyway, I went for a ride on the trainer so that I could still get a workout in. So I popped in a cycling DVD and started peddling. I covered 50 miles in 1 hour and 37 minutes for about a 31mph pace. I was seating buckets! I was going to get more in but I had to get ready to go to Orlando and buy a new car. Fun fun. Sundays ride was a bit better. The morning are was very cold and there was a stiff wind coming from the west at about 13mph. A tad nippy. I was going to head down to the bike shop and ride with those folks but when I got there none of the usual people were there. But one good person was….my old buddy Rusty. I haven’t ridden with him in a while! There were several other people there that I didn’t know nor did I think that I’d like. They are what I call gear heads. That comes from the fact that they are more into the bike and the gear than actually ridding it. They spend $8000 on the bike and hundreds on shoes and clothes, but yet they only do 16mph club rides. What is the point in that? But these guys actually were nice. I received many compliments during the day about my cycling and my conditioning….so it was very good for my ego. But Rusty and I got a really good workout this day. We were attacking each other and getting speeds of about 35mph! We dropped everybody more time than I can count. But Rusty is like a locomotive and I was like a little mosquito ridding behind him and then just taking off from the back leaving him behind in my dust. It was a fun ride. One of the guys told me that he thought that I was one of the strongest riders around here. That was good to hear after all of the work that I put in. But you can tell that some of the other riders were actually intimidated by me….which is a hoot seeing how they spend all that money…you’d think that they could ride too? Well I guess you can’t buy strong cycling legs. Rusty and me ended up leaving everyone behind and just hammered back. At some parts we had a good 5 minute gain on the others…and there were points where I’d attack and get almost a quarter mile on Rusty and I’d have to wait on him. Now Rusty is one of the stronger riders that I know so that is a good mark of conditioning for me. So I ended the Sunday ride with another 50 mile and a fat head. But hey…I worked hard for that…..
