50/50

It was an odd weekend in cycling for me. Saturday, I went down to meet up with the bike shop folks and the only person that showed up was a man named Keith from Ft Lauderdale. Now this was supposed to be a banner day as for the weather and I can’t figure out where every one was!! So we waited a couple of extra minutes then we took off. Keith is in the process of buying a home in the area so I pointed out a few things along the way. But Keith and I rode up to High Point and back. Keith actually surprise me…pretty strong. I think that we kept a 24-25mph pace. I was feeling real good, but I dropped Keith a few times when I pushed the pace up to 30mph. After I dropped Keith back at the shop…I went for a few extra miles to end my day at 70 miles. My average speed was 23mph…or so. A few hours after I go back from that ride…it was time to go on another!! But this time it’s for fun. I went on a 10 mile mountain bike ride with Carmen. I love these rides. For one it gives me time with her, and I get to ride slow and enjoy the scenery! I love to ride my bike…but I’m so stuck on speed and distance and all of that, sometimes it’s hard to really just relax and enjoy the ride and ridding with Carmen allows me to that…or forces me to slowdown and look around for a chance. I see my rides in the morning as “work”…well training, but riding with Carmen is for fun…riding a bike like when I was a kid. Yesterday, I peddled real hard and put my feet up on the forks! When was the last time that you did that…YEARS! But it was a blast. There is a train that we like that is pretty well covered in the woods. Anyway.

Sunday’s weather was not going to be so nice….but that has never stopped me. Took the long way down to the bike shop just to find that again, nobody showed up. Oh well. I started off up the river with a pretty strong head-wind. But luckily, I hitched a ride behind a minivan and cruised about 27-30mph up river drive! Normally I don’t do that for long, but the driver was a avid cyclist himself and egged me on. Plus, I could see right out the front window so I could tell in advance if the driver was going to brake or not. The I rode around NASA and then south through Merritt Island and then back home. It was really grey, windy, and just crappy out. Plus I was a bit tired. But I still managed to log in 74 miles at about 24mph, so it was productive. Not sure if I’m going back out with Carmen or not..still a bit windy for her. I really want to, but I don’t want to push. This is her thing and I feel that it’s important to let her lead and take control so she doesn’t think that I’m pushing. But if we do go, we are going to take out dinner with us and have a picnic!! But that was my weekend…about 150 miles!
