The weekend....:-/
Well the weekend was pretty much a wash-out. Saturday, I meet up with the folks from Revolutions bike shop and go a good ride in, but it took so much out of me and I think that I am starting to fight a cold so I decided to take Sunday off and stay in the house so that I don’t get any worst. But the Saturday ride…well let me tell you, that was a lot of work. The winds were blowing from the WNW/NW at 25mph and gusting to almost 40mph. I should have been beaten for going out in that. As I left the house I headed east on Viera BLD and shifted ti a big gear and I looked down to find that I was riding 37.1mph. That should tell you what kind of tail wind that I had! The air was chilly but not to bad. I’d say that it was in the 40’s. Anyway, I made it down to the shop and b.s.ed with a few of the other riders and then we took back off about 7:20. We started off slow about 17mph so the other folks could get warmed-up. Up ahead of up I saw a couple other riders so I took over the paceline so we could catch up to them. It turned out to be a couple of guys that I know…Kevin and Jeff, both triathletes. Kevin is very strong and I like riding with him. I kept control of the pace for about the first 10 miles and kept the pace about 20mph…and yes that is into the wind. As we made the left onto US1 I got behind a dump truck and drafted off of him until the river drive pull off. We managed to draft at 34mph and I barely had to peddle. I’m not sure he even knew that I was there. Anyway…I had to peddle real slow to let everyone to catch back up to me..and about a mile late, we were back together. The ride up to Cocoa village was slow…kept dropping people and then having to wait on them to catch up. As we got to the Village, Kevin asked me to hammer up to 528….well I told him to go ahead with a smile because I know that the winds would not be nice. BUT…as we left Cocoa Village, I stood up on my peddles and took off like a bat out of hell and hit about 31mph and left everyone…that is except Kevin. We played a game of cat and mouse at 25-27mph up to 528. Now 25-27mph with the wind was just insanely painful…but we did it. I passed him going up High Point. The ride back was pretty much the same as the first leg and that was ok with my. I felt pretty spent at that point. Kept the pace at 22mph and did a few sprints back down while chatting with Kevin. Then the pain really started. We headed west on Viera Blvd and I was lucky to maintain 14mph! The wind now had really picked up from the west. I had that head wind for about 3 miles and what a long 3 miles it was. But I mad it home and jumped into a warm shower. After the shower..I was sitting on the couch and started to cough and wheeze. My lungs sounded like they had water in them. And today I still feel run down. That is why I took today off, plus today isn’t much better than yesterday. I’ll save my energy until next weekend when the weather should be much better! Kevin and I are going to start to do 5-7 hour rides together which will be great!
